Playing in garbage

The November 2008 MHF mission trip to the Baguio City area saw the handoff of the MHF/MHA initiated Irisan emergency medical clinic (IMEC) to the Irisan Barangay fulfilling our mission of empowerment. Additionally, four medical and dental outreaches helped over 950 people at Batuan community school and Benguet provincial jails. In 2009 MHF will expand outreaches focused on children living and working at dumpsites.

MHF gratefully acknowledges the generosity of its financial donors and volunteers and gives special thanks to CUPS (Calgary Urban Projects Society) and Calgary's Spy Hill Correctional Facility for the important medications donated to us that we were able to pass along to many of the people at the outreach locations as well as several other non-profit organizations, such as Baguio City's EMS.

Our Organization

MINISTRO HUMANITARIAN FOUNDATION (MHF) is a Canadian Christian organization that provides management and funding for medical and dental outreach clinics in the Philippines. The manpower for these clinics is provided entirely by local Filipino volunteers (professionals, students and citizens). We do what we can. They do what they can. Together, we do good work!

John Toth's Passion Statement

"Purpose of Life"

The Philippines is a country where there is a substantial gap between the rich and the poor. Despite the glamour and beauty that are often portrayed in advertisements of the tourism industry, there also lies a darker side to which many ignore, or refuse to accept. My first visit to the Philippines in 1993 was certainly an eye-opener. I was given the opportunity to act as a volunteer at a Philippine Maternity Clinic, which was originally founded by a Canadian couple, in Metro Manila. During my four months of medical work, I visited squatter areas with the clinic staff. What I saw was heartbreaking. Depressing, smelly, highly-populated and crowded areas to what appeared to me as "forgotten cities", where individuals were marginalized by mainstream society. A community like "Smokey Mountain" - located right in the heart of the city's tremendous garbage dump was only one of the many examples. What truly impacted me was the poverty, the brokenness, hopelessness that surrounded these areas, and I could not ignore the fact that I knew I could do something about it. I could make a difference, no matter how insignificant it might seem to others. John Toth, FounderI told myself, "I can go back, clean up wounds, bring vitamins and even just spend time with the people". Through my service, I began to recognize and realize my own, burning passion towards those who are less fortunate, to those living below the basic standards of human necessities in extreme impoverished communities who had absolutely no access to medical aid. I realized that my life experiences, both the good and the bad began to funnel together - coming together and realizing that there was a higher meaning and purpose of my life. I began to share this realization of my passion with my friends, and even strangers. Ever since then, people have opened their hearts and have wanted to participate and be involved in the vision of making a difference. And this is how our organization MHF, has grown, and become successful: By touching the hearts and impacting the lives of the thousands, and the millions that surround us. I truly believe that each and every one of us possesses a passion that runs in parallel with our purpose in life.
